If you hair is dry we recommend washing your hair every other day or every third day. If you hair is oily wash you hair everyday. If you swim, wet your hair first and use a leave-in conditioner in your hair and extensions. This will help your hair not to soak up much chlorine. Make sure you don’t put conditioner on you scalp where the extensions system lays. Wash your hair after swimming and use a leave-in conditioner. Also, wash your hair right after a soak in the spa or exercising. These activities can create tangels and matting.
Shampoo and Condition
Wet your hair and apply a professional Ph balanced moisturizing shampoo recommended by your certified stylist. Work the shampoo mostly on the roots and through the ends. Do not rub the extension hair. Friction will cause tangles. Squeeze shampoo with the palm of your hands into the hair. Rinse shampoo and condition with a professional Ph moisturizing conditioner recommended by your certified stylist. Conditioning the hair is vital to its maintenance. Place the conditioner in the palm of your hands and create a ponytail. Bouncy Crème by ISO is recommended to detangle the hair and keep it soft. Work the conditioner from the start of the ponytail to the ends. Making a ponytail will avoid the conditioner from getting on the scalp. Conditioner on the scalp will cause the extensions to loosen up faster. With conditioner on brush your hair starting from the ends to the roots while holding the base with the other hand. Rinse and towel dry with out rubbing, just squeeze the water out.
Product Build Up
Styling products create build-up on the hair and it is recommended that a deep cleansing shampoo be used once or twice a month to remove build-up. Build-up can make the hair dry and can cause tangling. Use moisturizers to avoid this problem.
Brushing
Spray a leave in conditioner and brush your hair starting from the ends and work your way to the roots while holding on to the base of your hair with the other hand. Once you reach the roots a 17th & Glamour brush only may be used. This brush is designed not to pull your extensions out of your scalp. Now you need to brush you own hair in between the extensions. This is necessary in order to avoid your hair getting tangled with the hair extension. In between washings your hair needs to be brushed daily unless you are wearing curly hair extension. If you have curly hair you may need to wash your hair at least every other day since you can’t brush your hair unless it’s wet.
Styling
You may style your hair as you normally would. Be careful not to tug on your hair extensions. CURLY HAIR should use Gelee by Biolage as a gel and Bouncy Crème by ISO as a leave in conditioner are highly recommended. Gently work leave-in conditioner and gel into hair and let air dry.
Miscellaneous Tips
Although the extension hair is real, it is not receiving nutrients from the scalp like your own hair. Heat is your hair extensions biggest enemy. The more you use on it, the shorter the life-span of your hair. We cannot guarantee that the hair will remain silky if you use the blow dryer or curling iron. If you must use heat, be sure you use a Leave-In Conditioner. We also recommend that for curling the hair, you use steam rollers such as Caruso’s or Vidal Sassoon’s molecular steam rollers.
Sleeping
Untangle your hair and make a couple of braids before going to sleep, swim, or exercise. Never go to sleep with wet hair as it will cause matting. If you have curly hair, spray leave-in conditioner. Braiding is not necessary.
Chemical Treatment
Do not not chemically treat the extension hair as it is already processed. If you do, it is at your own risk.
Swimming
Swimming can cause damage to the extensions whether it is salt or chlorinated water.
Removing Your Extensions
We recommend that your extensions be removed only by a 17th & Glam Hair Extension Specialist. Do not attempt to remove your extensions yourself or have any other person as improper removal may cause damage to your own hair and extensions. Only a 17th & Glam specialist has the right tools for removal.
Maintenance
The removal and application only be done by Certified 17th &Glam specialist. Reattachment needs to be done every 8-10 weeks.
Matting
If matting occurs brush your hair from ends to roots with a Glamour Lock brush. If it is still matted make an appointment to see your 17th & Glam specialist as soon as possible to de-matt your hair before more builds up.
